Duro health FAQs

About Duro Health
What is Duro Health?
Duro Health is a doctor-led, longevity-focused medical service designed to help you live longer and healthier. We use advanced diagnostics, personalised risk analysis, and evidence-based protocols to prevent chronic disease and optimise your physical, cognitive, and emotional health. We take time to get to know you, your health risks and goals. We are not here to find out what is wrong, we are here to reveal what could be better. Duro uses the best information possible to give you evidence based actions.
How is Duro different from a regular GP clinic?
GPs provide excellent general and acute care. Duro Health complements—not replaces—your GP by offering in-depth, proactive longevity medicine. Our consults are longer (typically 1 hour), focused on prevention and optimisation, and include referrals and in-depth knowledge of investigations rarely available in standard check-ups (e.g., CT calcium scoring, VO₂ max, continuous glucose monitoring, whole body MRI, strength testing, cognitive screening).
What does “Medicine 3.0” mean?
Medicine 2.0 (the current system) focuses on treating illness once it appears. Medicine 3.0 is proactive: using data, advanced diagnostics, and personalised plans to prevent disease, optimise function, and extend healthspan (the years lived in good health).
Services & Process
What services do you offer?
We provide tailored health optimisation programs that may include:
How does the process work?
1. Book online through DuroHealth.com.au or HealthEngine
Initial consultation (1 hour): review of history, goals, and risk factors; physical and strength testing.
2. Investigations: blood tests, imaging, wearables, and specialist referrals as needed.
3. Personalised plan: clear, actionable recommendations for your physical, cognitive, and emotional health.
4. Ongoing care: regular reviews, re-testing, and updates as your health evolves.
Do you offer packages?
Yes.
Costs & Rebates
How much does it cost?
Duro Essential: Introductory price $539
Additional Follow-up reviews (may be booked by existing clients only, at any time): $205 (30 mins). Review appointments attract a time based Medicare rebate of $84.90, meaning the out-of-pocket amount is $120.10.
Additional investigations vary but are guaranteed at cost or with exclusive Duro Health discount, and with client priority booking with trusted partners (e.g. approximate costs for further investigations and analysis: Private blood tests $50+, CGM $200, CT scan $250+, VO₂ max $250+, whole body MRI $2900+).
Prices subject to change and are beyond the control of Duro Health, but we will go to all efforts to give reliable and up-to-date information and obtain financial consent for additional testing.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
Yes, as above. Medicare time-based rebates apply to consultations (initial and follow-up). Once you reach the annual Medicare threshold, rebates increase significantly (see further information here). Tests such as standard bloods are often covered, as are some imaging and other screening tests where indicated. However, Duro Health utilises multiple advanced screening and analytics that are not covered under Medicare - expect that all advanced biomarkers, imaging and genomics will be private.
Do you accept private health insurance?
Some allied health services (physio, dietetics, psychology) may be claimable, depending on your extras cover. Duro consults are billed privately with Medicare rebates applied where available. We are looking to validate our model, and work with private health insurers in the future to further subsidise Duro Health for clients with private health cover.
Eligibility & Suitability
Who is Duro Health for?
Anyone interested in proactive, evidence-based health optimisation. Clients include:
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to see us. We can also provide referrals to trusted specialists as part of your plan.
What if I already have a GP or specialist?
We encourage it. Duro Health complements—not replaces—your GP. With your consent, we share results and recommendations with your GP and specialists to support integrated care.
Do you integrate with MyHealth Record and can you upload my results for me?
Absolutely, with your consent. Duro Health advocates strongly that all clients should activate and then regularly review their MyHealth Record, including controls and permissions.
Investigations & Safety
Are all tests safe?
Yes. All investigations are medically assessed for appropriateness before being ordered. Higher-level tests (e.g., CTCA, MRI, genetic screening) are only arranged after thorough discussion and consent.
Will I be pressured into unnecessary tests or supplements?
No. Every recommendation is evidence-informed and based on your personal risk profile. We have no commercial affiliations with any pharmaceutical or supplement companies.
Practicalities
Where are you located?
We are based at South Melbourne Physiotherapy, 98 York St, South Melbourne, with options for telehealth (video only, no telephone) consults.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Many consultations and follow-ups can be done via telehealth (video only). Some physical assessments require in-person visits, however we have work-arounds to this if you cannot attend for a physical assessment.
Can you come to me?
For executive clients or special requests, concierge arrangements may be available.
How do I book?
Via HealthEngine (link on our website) or by emailing admin@durohealth.com.au.
Philosophy
Do you offer biohacking therapies (IV vitamins and NAD+, red light sauna, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, niche supplement stacks etc.)?
Not proactively. If these are important to you, our doctors are open to discussing them, but our focus is on proven strategies with the greatest impact (exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, targeted therapeutics).
We are keenly watching the data pertaining to safety and effectiveness of rapamycin and other mTOR inhibitors, GLP1 agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors and others as healthspan and lifespan adjuncts, and are interested in the prospects of running ethical trials in Australia to test the validity of these approaches.
What is “healthspan” and why does it matter?
Healthspan is the number of years lived with vitality, optimal function, and wellbeing. We aim not only to extend lifespan but to ensure those extra years are thriving, not spent in decline.
